A vintage hand quilted cotton quilt of. Flower bouquets on a cream ground.
I believe it classifies as "handmade" since it is mostly hand stitched with just some seams of the larger blocks and one side of the binding being machine stitched by the original family of quilters. Measures approximately 68" by 82". It has a zig zag shaped edge on the two sides and straight edges at top and bottom. Hexagon floral bouquets are centered in larger cream hexagon blocks and some of the seams of the larger blocks are machine sewn and some of those seams are hand sewn. Also the binding is machine stitched on and flipped over and hand.
All the small hexagons forming the flowers appear to be hand pieced, all hand stitched. And everything is hand quilted. It has the provenance of the original makers embroidered on a corner of the back as shown in picture 4, also a small faint spot is pointed out in the lower left corner of the photo.
Made by mother and quilted by sister, possibly for another married sister, all named. Also embroidered LLC at the end, obviously not what it means today, but possibly the initials of a third sister? Original quilt top is dated there to the 1950s, possibly and most likely the quilt was completed and quilted around that same time period or decade.
Some of the fabrics look to be. From previous decades and others are 50s cotton prints. I believe a few of the flowers have what is known as "fussy cuts" where the small pieces each have a certain element of the. Fabric pattern centered in each hexagon. There are some scattered brownish spots, grayish spots, one narrow pink spot paint? But it's small and on the back, right side in photo 8. The last photo shows two brownish spots and what looks like cream color house paint on the yellow.
Hexagon in the lower left of the picture. There are some light tan water-like marks shown in photo 9. Please expect possibly a few other similar small spots, not limited to those pictured closely. Examples are shown in photos 6 -12.
Light yellowing from storage, age, and/or use which may not show up well in the photos. Otherwise very good vintage condition. No holes, rips or repairs, no excessive wear, no fraying.
