Here is a beautiful yo-yo quilt hand stitched in what I believe are fabrics from the 1930s or 1940s. It measures approximately 78 by 89 inches, and is made up of 1.5-inch yo-yos. It has scalloped edges, and the two bottom corners are notched to hang properly on a full-size bed.
A yo-yo quilt is not really a quilt in the traditional sense, because it has no batting or backing. It is meant to go over the top of a blanket or bedspread, which shows through the gaps between the circles (this was photographed on my blue bedspread). There are a few yo-yos that are frayed, and three need to be replaced entirely (see photos). Some of the stitches fastening the circles to each other have come undone (see photos).
