EARLY Vintage 1850's Indigo Blue & White Irish Chain Antique Quilt A+ QUILTING! OUTSTANDING Vintage 1840's Oak Reel Applique Antique Quilt AMAZING BORDER! This MAGNIFICENT cotton 1840's/1850's indigo blue and white oak reel quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted, with very early pale-blue-on-indigo prints used throughout. The unusually complex vine border wraps around three sides of the quilt. It measures 78" X 84" and is in excellent condition, with the occasional small age spot, subtle toning near the edge of the binding due to the very early pre-1830?

Binding fabric used (most visible on the back -- see pics) and no wear. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There is quilting around the applique and in straight line designs in the background, all at even 10-12 stitches to the inch.

The back is white, the hand stitched binding is a very early brown and blue fabric, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
