This OUTSTANDING cotton 1870's stars / sunburst quilt top is all hand and machine pieced, with wonderful early browns and a nice small scale. The following handwritten provenance is included: (Feb-25-1969 -written by by Helen Holmes Raymond) This quilt was pieced by either my grandmother, Lavine Holmes or her mother Adaline Gould. Rather [I] think the blocks were put together by Grandma Holmes because they are sewed with a sewing machine. The blocks easily could have been made by Great-Grandma Gould as she lots or this type of work and lived with Grandmas Holmes.
She was a great Bible student according to my father and a wonderful woman. The top came out of Abrams, Wisconsin. It measures 78" X 78" and is in excellent, never washed condition with age spotting in places and no wear. The SMALL SCALE, GREAT DESIGN, VIBRANT FABRICS, and INCLUDED PROVENANCE make this WELL PIECED COLLECTOR'S PIECE stand out!
