This VIBRANT cotton double 9-patch quilt is precisely machine pieced and hand quilted. The date "1929" and initials are hand embroidered on the back, but the fabrics appear to date back to the 19th century. Perhaps this was dated at the time it was given as a gift? Some of the red prints (the more colorful ones) date back to the pre-1830 era.
It measures a generous 82" X 82" and is in mint, unwashed condition, with the occasional age spot (I haven't tried to clean this one) and no wear. There are straight line and ellipse designs quilted throughout at an even 8-9 stitches to the inch with faint pencil marks still visible in places. You can see cotton seeds inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. The back and machine stitched binding are white, and the batting is thin. The photos just don't do justice to this vintage red & white CLASSIC in SUPERB CONDITION!
