Early 1800's Antique Quilt Brown, Blue Sawtooth Delectable Mts, 90x80
This is a stunning and rare quilt that should probably be in a museum. I think the pattern is "Delectable Mountains, " with small, sawtooth triangles making up the blocks and the border. The fabrics date to early or mid 1800s and are soft, it's likely been washed. It is huge, 90" x 80" inches. The fabrics are in good shape, except for one of the browns that was used to complete a few of the blocks, which has disintegrated, revealing the cotton batting.
The hand quilting is done in brown thread, a series of concentric circles and flowers with crosshatch background. The thread is fragile, and you can see that some of it has come loose or out on the back. The back is pieced muslin with brown staining, which looks like water.
There are several tears in the muslin backing, which I've included pix of. The binding is done in a complimentary brown fabric.
Please enlarge and study all the pix, they are part of the description. Thanks for your interest in my listing. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Linens & Textiles\Bed & Bath Linens\Quilts, Bedspreads & Coverlets". The seller is "tyrope" and is located in this country: US.
