Antique American large Crazy Quilt, Embroidered flowers, 3D, Silk & Velvet 1880s
Some of the letters were dated as far back as 1906 a Virginia Stewart was a teacher and traveled a lot, I believe she married a R. Claude Gray in Oregon, could of had a son name Edward Gray who was a dentist. Outstanding antique Victorian quilt from the 1800's! This beauty has excellent aesthetic value with the exceptional stitching and design. Features many; roses, embroidered flowers, 3D umbrella, ribbons A. A number 38 1886, musical notes, American flag with 38 stars, ribbon star spangled banner 37 stars, cat, butterfly, Velvet ruby border, initials CP/M. An astounding plethora of textiles and fabrics and textures! Way more than I can picture-please study the photos! The variety of materials is sooo gorgeous. I believe the backing is cotton, on the far right corner of the last picture the last name GRAY is sewn in.
This quilt has nice weight to it. Quilt Size: 66" x 75". Fraying of silk boarded on one side, fraying of some of the silk some loose threads.
