Vintage Japanese Handmade Embroidered Silk Quilted Kimono Robe Silvery Gray 65L

  

This beautiful vintage hand embroidered Japanese Chinese style kimono is in very good condition with no holes, tears, stains, pilling, or pulls. The piece is completely hand sewn, so it is of high quality, but as there are no labels which leaves me to guess its age... Possibly the 1920's-1930's. The kimono is a silvery gray pongee silk, which is lined with tissue silk of the same color, and has a thin layer of batting (probably silk or wool) between the layers of silk for warmth.

The three dimensional raised embroidery is primarily chrysanthemum motifs, as shown in the photographs. On the back of each sleeve is a knotted braid of silk threads that ends in a tassel. The bottom has a rolled hem that is lightly padded with wadding for form and drape. Each side of the kimono has a gusset. This beautiful kimono has a wonderful drape. This item measures 65 from top of shoulder to the bottom hem.

The sleeves are 15 1/2 wide and 28 1/2 long. When the garment is laid flat, it measures 26 1/2 across the chest. I think this would make a stunning wall hanging against a dark wall, or a special addition to a vintage garment collection. It is very unusual to find these very fragile silk kimonos in such good condition, like this one.
