Antique Dated 1888 Crazy Quilt Hand Made Heavily Embroidered 68" x 57". A masterpiece of Victorian embroidery and floral raised work.
This turn of the century crazy quilt reminds me of a Picasso abstract painting. It is all hand pieced together with wonderful hand embroidered colorful stitch embellishments, with cotton stitched raised flowers to give dimension and lift, and lovely assortment of birds, human hands, flowers, leaves, initials and dated 1888.
A vast array of different connecting cotton stitches in colors of the rainbow on a mixture of silk, satin, brocade and velvet fabric. The backing is a tied pink cotton with lovely quilting of feathers and stars at 9 - 10 stitches per inch.
Some rips and holes on the quilt fold area as well as on border. Very few small holes on interior of quilt, no stains, no fading and still vibrant. An easy fix replacing damaged patchwork. A great quilt to be fixed and finished for your collection. This quilt is a wonderful sewn together work of art. The quilter put a lot of thought into the selections of materials to give the quilt a great visual look. A great addition to one's collection. We are happy to answer any questions about this item.
